Pia MYrvoLD
Pia Myrvold has a classical background in piano from childhood and became interested in composition early on. She grew up with her older brother, Lasse Myrvold, and the two had a playful musical partnership as children, with experimentation where the six-year-older brother introduced her to various artists, atonal music, and the blues.
In her teenage years, she composed songs with lyrics, and after her direction shifted towards painting, she worked in an improvised music group, Chameleon Circus, in the early 1980s, focusing on free improvisation and acoustic and homemade instruments.
In 1982, she formed MX and the Blind Passenger with Randy Naylor, venturing into electronic music. Pia worked extensively with synthesizers, drum machines, and various electronic gadgets throughout the 1980s.
In 1984, she produced her first video, and the art group Art Attack, involved in live performances, also produced video installations and video editing using Fairlight technology, developed through discoveries by the video artist Nam June Paik, who in the early years used synthesizer technology to influence video images.
When Myrvold moved to Paris in 1991, her musical ambition took a new turn. She began producing music tracks for many of her interdisciplinary productions in a multi-surface universe. During the fashion performances from 1993 to 2003, Myrvold created all the music tracks, often in collaboration with other musicians and producers.
"Interface" and "Interactive-Interattractive,"1995, were produced with Luigi P, while "Post Machine," 1998, was a co-production with Laure Millena.
"The Body Theory," 1997, was a completely autonomous production, as was the 1999 "Dream Sequences."
"Fast Forward," 1999, was a co-production with Bugge Wesseltoft and was selected by Pina Bausch for her production "Agua."
In 2001, her soundtrack "Interference" was produced with London-based Fridel.
The same year, she worked with Nile Rodgers in New York for the project "The Bridge," featuring the three tracks "Slow Emotion," "Walking," and "Hypermix."
In 2020, she worked on new tracks for "The Sumerian Holiday" series. One of the published tracks is "Constellation Alien."
Early videos, such as "Interface" and "Fast Forward," were made in the format of MTV music videos, which remain a significant influence in her multi-surface productions.
