Roxar HQ -
Art And Corperate Identity
Pia MYrvoLD
By Gunnar Hviding My name is Mr Gunnar Hviding, former CEO of Roxar ASA. Roxar ASA was a listed global technology company, until being taken over by Emerson Electric Inc in 2009. In 2008/09 Roxar had a refurbishment and extension project on it’s global headquarters in Stavanger. We wanted this project to reflect the company’s innovative spirit, and wanted to decorate the offices in an innovative fashion. Roxar’s design philosophy is that every design aspect of its products shall have a function. If a design expression was proposed for decorative purposes only, we removed it. As a consequence, we wanted the decorative project for the building to reflect this design philosophy, the art work should have a function in the building. We considered several artists, but Pia Myrvold was an obvious choice. She had a long career spanning several different innovative art forms, including the use of modern technology. Although the work was commissioned by Roxar, the building itself was to be owned by a 3rd party group, which would then let the offices to Roxar. This set some limitations to how far we could extend the art project. Nevertheless, the project was a great success. Pia Myrvold designed a theme, using a simple manual starting point and computer enhancements to arrive at a modern expression that fit the company’s profile. The art was then embedded into many aspects of the building, which I’m sure is best explained by looking into the artist’s portfolio. The additional cost was a minimum, as the art replaced functions that the building would need to have no matter what, like room dividers, paint on walls, printed glass surfaces, mapping the building etc. Worker’s pride and company profile was enhanced as a result of the project. Best regards Gunnar Hviding former CEO of Roxar ASA
