Highlights 2011–2020
Pia MYrvoLD
Between 2010 and 2020, MYworld Studio curated and produced three independent pavilions for the
Venice Biennale.
In 2011, the pavilion FLOW – a work in motion marked the first new media art presentation within
the Biennale context, leading to further exhibitions in Los Angeles and residencies at OCAD University (Toronto), Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, and the Stenersen Museum, Oslo (2013).
Myrvold returned to Venice for a solo exhibition in the 2013 Biennale, curating and producing
The Metamorphoses of the Virtual, which won First Prize for Best Independent Exhibition.
Participating artists included Miguel Chevalier, ORLAN, and Pixel Festival, with catalogue texts by
David Rosenberg and Christine Buci-Glucksmann.
Adrian Cheng of the K11 Art Foundation invited her to present the exhibition at K11 Art Foundation, Shanghai (2014). With curatorial assistance from David Rosenberg, she expanded the show to include five Chinese artists, alongside French artist Maurice Benayoun and Pascal Dombis. The New York Times listed the exhibition among the best summer shows in Asia (2014).
That same year, PACE Beijing featured her in the group exhibition In the Summer, We Love Video.
In 2014, Myrvold presented her solo show ART AVATAR at the Centre Pompidou, followed by WANDS, her first generation of “smart sculptures,” exhibited at ANX, Oslo, and later at the Art for Tomorrow conference organised by the New York Times and Qatar Museums. She also unveiled the kinetic sculpture Hybrid Love, using KUKA robotic arms.
Her light-hack sculpture Time Machine, constructed from electronic waste, premiered at Art Basel Miami (2016) and was later shown at Lelia Mordoch Gallery (Miami and Paris), The Nordic Museum (Seattle), Bergen Pixel Festival, and Cornell Art Museum. In 2019, she produced another Independent Pavilion for the Venice Biennale GAD program.
